What type of events does the AC do?
-- The AC provides monthly "learn-how" activities that introduce girls and women to a new sport or physical activity.  These events require a little physical exertion, and skill or fitness prerequisites are minimal.

Who teaches/coaches/leads the events?
-- Most events are taught/coached or led by local women who are professionals or avid participators in the sport.  For example, the golf clinic is taught by a female pro from a local golf course and the yoga events are led by a local instructor.

How do I sign up to attend these events?
-- First you'll need to give us your contact information.  Click on the "Join us!" button on this web page to submit your basic information - be sure to indicate your interest in Adventure Club so that we can automatically add you to our contact list.
-- Near the date of the event, we will send you an e-mail invitation with specific details (time, cost, meeting place, what to bring, event coordinator, etc.).  You must then e-mail the event coordinator to sign up for that event.
-- All daily communication concerning the AC is done through e-mail.  Please e-mail us at adventureclub@bodyelectric-sb.org to learn more.

What does it mean to be on the AC contact list?
-- You will receive invitations to upcoming AC events via e-mail, be informed and educated about the goals and mission of Body Electric, and hopefully enjoy events throughout the years.

When will the AC send invitations to me?
-- We send e-mail invitations approximately two weeks prior to each event. Sometimes we experience complications, so event dates and times are subject to change. If you are interested in attending an event, feel free to e-mail us at adventureclub@bodyelectric-sb.org and we will keep you posted on the event’s progress.

What if I don’t have e-mail?
-- If you don't have e-mail, you can still participate; however, you will not receive monthly invitations regarding our events.  You will need to take note of our calendar online or in The Buzz and contact us by telephone at 805.569.7144 *2 for events that you are interested in attending.

How much does it cost to be a member?
-- There is no membership fee required to participate in AC.  However, attending events does require payment (cost varies for each event).

Are girls allowed at the events?
-- Most events allow girls to attend and we highly encourage you to bring girls to our events.  However, it does depend on the event since we collaborate with various companies, outfitters and individuals, and are left to their discretion on whether girls are allowed.  You will want to speak directly with the event coordinator for each event.
-- All girls under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver in order for her to participate (see below).

Are men or boys allowed at the events?
-- No. The AC hosts women-and-girls-only events and training.  The program's goal is to provide adventurous opportunities for women and girls to challenge themselves and support one another in an environment that focuses on their unique learning styles, physical challenges, and athletic goals.  There are many opportunities for local women and girls to participate in co-ed sporting programs; the AC was created to offer a women-and-girls only option.  We respectfully ask that all participants honor this women-and-girls-only policy.

What is the risk involved in attending these events?
-- All participants must sign a waiver before beginning the event.  Body Electric is not responsible for injuries that occur before, during or after our events (refer to the waiver for more details).  Some events, such as surfing, involve more risk than others. We take the proper precautions in maintaining your safety but you must be responsible for yourself.
-- All minors (under 18 years old) must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver on their behalf before beginning the event.

How many girls and women attend each event?
-- This varies depending on the event.  Participant numbers range from 3-20 people.  Some events have a limit on how many people can attend.

How does the AC operate?
-- The AC consists of a committee of local women volunteers.  These volunteers are trained and committed to preserving the goals and mission of Body Electric through the AC events.  As a team we plan, research and implement activities, and inform the community regarding the monthly events.

Does the AC committee get paid for their work?
-- No. Body Electric has one part-time paid staff person: our Director.  The Adventure Club committee members are all volunteers who help to plan these events in their spare time.

Why doesn’t anyone answer the phone when I call Body Electric?
-- The Body Electric phone line, 805.569.7144, is only for voice mail.  For questions about the AC, remember to choose option *2 to leave a message.  Since we're all volunteers, we will do our best to get back to you ASAP.  E-mail is the preferred contact method because it's quicker and more efficient; e-mail us at adventureclub@bodyelectric-sb.org.

How can I volunteer for the AC?
-- If you are interested in pursuing a volunteer position with the AC there are several steps that you will need to take.  The first thing you should do is attend a couple of the events.  This will provide a sense of how the events are structured and organized.
-- Second, contact the Adventure Club (adventureclub@bodyelectric-sb.org) and let us know you’re interested in becoming an AC committee member.  We will connect you with our volunteer training program.  One of the major prerequisites to becoming an AC volunteer is attending one of Body Electric’s volunteer trainings, generally held twice a year in spring and fall.  Contact the Director for the dates of the next training at 805.569.7144 *1, or at alana@bodyelectric-sb.org.
