HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BODY ELECTRIC!

HIGH FIVE! CELEBRITY WAITER DINNER SURPASSES
LAST YEAR'S FUNDRAISING TOTAL

On October 5th, SOhO Restaurant was filled with the energy and excitement of our second High Five! Celebrity Waiter Dinner, with great food, a silent auction, and celebrity service, followed by the fantastic musical entertainment of Sovosó and Kate Wallace!

The event was a tremendous success, raising approximately $10,000 to support Body Electric's programs, surpassing the amount raised at the last event, including over $3,300 at the silent auction and over $3,250 in tips raised by our celebrity waiters.

Thank you to all of our generous sponsors, volunteers and attendees!

Celebrity Waiters:

State Assemblymember Hannah-Beth Jackson
County Supervisor Susan Rose

And the top tip-getter Leslie Person Ryan: individually raising over $1,100 in tips!

KIRA'S JOURNAL

Part six and the last in a series, the following is an excerpt of the journal of Kira Anthofer, a former collegiate and professional athlete who is working toward health and fitness of body, mind and spirit.

With our journal series we bring you the challenges and accomplishments of an average woman: someone who, like all of us, balances a life full of work, play, friends, family and occasional struggle.

We hope you find inspiration in their daily endeavors, and perhaps decide to try something new and challenging yourself!

This is my final submission in my yearlong journal in the Buzz. How I end it is how I started. I am at the same beginning spo tph ysically. However, timehaschanged my approach to well being.

During the past two months, I stopped my personal training sessions at the gym. I decided to buy another house and sell the one I currently own. The money I was spending at the gym is now going towards the new house. I will close escrow on November 1st.

I can sit here and type away a lot of excuses why I didn't go to the gym as often as I use to just a couple of months ago. But I won't. Life happens. Changing a lifestyle takes time and lots of energy. Do not let anyone fool you.

The main point is drive. You must have the drive to keep trying and the right method will come along. I'm going to try another approach that was successful for me about five years ago. It is a different philosophy that allows a foodie, like myself, to indulge in "treats" once a week. I think I do best with short-term goals and immediate rewards (i.e. a bowl of ice cream after six days of excellent diet and exercise) After a couple of months, my rewards start changing away from food.

When you decide to change your fitness habits, please know in your heart you are not alone in the struggle. It is a struggle but there is a breaking point when you see it is all worth it and it no longer feels like a struggle.

Old fashioned advice still holds true: drink plenty of water every day, eat healthy foods, and exercise at least four times a week. How you do it will always be up to you. But the important thing is to DO IT. I sign off with three pounds lost since January.
