Body Electric Scholarship Recipient: Alexandria Arutian

Each year, Body Electric awards a $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding young female athlete. The young woman must have at least a B average, have played school or club sports and plan on continuing sports in college, going on to a two- or a four-year school after graduation without the benefit of a full athletic scholarship.  In 2006, Body Electric – in partnership with the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara - awarded its Ninth Annual Body Electric Scholarship to Ms. Alexandra Arutian.

Alex is an accomplished young woman who is successful in sports, academics and service to the community. Alex will graduate from Dos Pueblos High School in June and has applied to USC, UC Berkeley, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Williams, Colby and several other colleges for next fall. Alex plans to major in Business Administration or Social Sciences and hopes to pursue a career in management or marketing. She has truly enjoyed her time at Dos Pueblos High School and has challenged herself with a rigorous course curriculum and has achieved an excellent 4.8 GPA.

Alex played on the DPHS Girls Volleyball team for four years and has played on and helped to coach a club volleyball team. Soccer has also been important to Alex. She played soccer at DPHS for one year, and played AYSO soccer for seven years and has volunteered when needed as an assistant coach. In addition to athletics, Alex is a member of the National Honor Society and received top honors on the National Latin Exam. This year, Alex is completing community service hours as a volunteer at a retirement community and for the past five years she has enjoyed playing the violin.

A teacher comments: “Alex is intelligent, cheerful and well-liked by other students. She is always willing to help her classmates and is a leader in the classroom and on the volleyball court.” Her coach states: Alex demonstrates a great ability to deal with kids, as she is patient and has good coaching skills. She is a very hard worker, well organized and very enthusiastic. Alex is a young woman with good character and intelligence – she is a real winner.”
